I've been raised well, in the sense that I totally understand and accept that everyone comes in all different shapes and sizes and that everyone is beautiful in their own way. Being a teenager, it is all too easy to be pressurised by society's expectations of body shape; Fortunately I have accepted my body and learnt to love what I have because there is no changing it. I've learnt to accept my flaws and flaunt the good bits and I find fashion a perfect way to express my body shape- by dressing to suit your shape, anything will look great on!
I have an hourglass figure- a big bust, small waist and big hips and bum. I also have fairly broad shoulders and big upper arms (my family call them our 'farmer girls' arms!). I range from a UK size 10 to 12 to 14.
Here are some ways I dress to suit my hourglass figure:
Jumper- H&M
Jeans- H&M
Shoes- New Look
Hat- Primark
I LOVE skinny high-waisted jeans! They fit really nicely, skim over my hips and cinch in my waist perfectly- They really show off the figure well whilst still being comfortable and appropriate for everyday wear! I wear skinny high-waisted jeans with so many different tops- I love this sweater from H&M. I also like to wear shoes with a heel with these jeans as they elongate my legs in addition to the high waist.
Top- Primark
Skirt- NEXT
Shoes- River Island
Another flattering look is a skater skirt that sits nicely on the hips and again cinches in the waist to make it appear smaller. I like to pair a skirt like this with a V- neck top which reveals a bit of curviness but is still super flattering!

A body-con dress is perfect for streamlining the body and great for showing off curves! I love this dress from H! By Henry Holland (Debenhams) because it has longer sleeves, about elbow length, which brings the attention to the waist region therefore emphasizing it. I always feel great when wearing this dress!

Shoes- New Look
As I mentioned before, I have larger tops of my arms, so outfits with a longer sleeve like this are great for covering them a bit. A structured dress like this one is great for providing a streamlined figure and the waistline emphasizes your curves. As you may have noticed, I prefer to wear shorter dresses because maxi dresses sometimes drown my figure and make me appear shorter. I also love the exciting butterfly and floral print of this dress.
I may not have killer abs but I still like to wear a crop top or two! High waisted shorts or trousers ensure that only a little bit of tummy is on show, and of course are super flattering as well! I've accessorized this look with a plaid shirt and I've rolled up the sleeves to elbow length to emphasize the waist area, like the body-con dress! Block colours are also great for hourglass figures as they direct attention to different parts of the body!
So that's a few of my favourite outfits along with tips for dressing for a hourglass figure, such as mine! I hope this has helped/ inspired some of you! But remember, with ANY body shape or size you can dress in a way to flatter your figure and look amazing! Lets keep spreading a message of positive body image and self confidence :)
