I Made a Dress! | LittleEllieMae

My family are all sewers, and have always been ever since I was born so it was natural for me to grow up and be interested in sewing.

I have sewn my own dress before but it was a costume for my Textiles GCSE in school; not something I'd actually wear (check it out here!).

Over the summer I vowed to make a dress that I would actually wear and make use of! I took inspiration from my Mum's gorgeous vintage dress from 'Lindy Bop'- a gorgeous floral midi dress, inspired by 50s Audrey Hepburn.

I bought this pretty cotton material from Trago Mills at only £3.50 for two metres! I love the amazing cornflour blue colour and delicate pink floral pattern.

I used a free dress pattern from my Mum's Prima magazine to cut out the basic pattern pieces I needed, however because I have made garments before I didn't have to use any instructions and just sewed it from memory (and common sense!).

Of course, I used my (ancient) Singer sewing machine, but it is always such a pleasure to use!

I sewed darts in the front of the top to add shape to the bust, also I sewed some darts in the back because it seemed that the material was too baggy around my back and shoulders so darts shaped it a bit more.

I'm still looking to buy a hook and eye to secure the top of the zip.
I bought a pink zip to easily fasten the dress. The zip was around 80p. I decided to sew the zip so that it is visible from the outside of the dress as I loved how the colour stood out against the blue but coordinated with the pink flowers!

And this is the finished dress!

I'm really pleased with the outcome of this dress- its really feminine and cute but still very fashionable, with a nod to the classic 50s Audrey style.

I love sewing my own clothes and would urge anyone to try and do so because it makes the garment so personal and unique to you. A lot of people are somewhat scared of the concept of sewing as they have never been taught how, but with helpful resources like YouTube and blogs, its so easy to learn the basics! Sewing workshops and classes are also a great way to learn how to sew.
And at a grand total of under £5 to make this dress, its a cheap hobby to take up (so long as you shop savvy!)

I can't wait to start sewing some more advanced garments in the near future!

I hope you like my dress! Have you ever sewn anything? Let me know by commenting below or tweeting me @LittleEllieMae :)

Have a great day!

#TeenBlogSeries- Week 1- 10 Facts About Me

Teen Bloggers Anouska Millar and Beth have decided to start a project called #TeenBlogSeries. Its aim is to bring together lots of the teens/young adults in the blogging community. For the next ten consecutive weeks, over 80 bloggers will be writing every Monday at 6:30pm about many different things, all beauty, lifestyle or fashion related. You can view everyones posts by going to the hashtag on twitter "TeenBlogSeries". If you would like to get involved email: anouskateenblogger@googlemail.com

Today I am delighted to be starting the #TeenBlogSeries which was created by the lovely Anouska and Beth. This will run over the course of ten weeks, with a new post every Monday! I really hope that you enjoy checking them out and make sure to check the other bloggers out who are taking part by searching the hashtag '#TeenBlogSeries'.

To get to know me a bit more, here are 10 facts about myself!

1.) I am a total beach baby- I honestly couldn't live anywhere which isn't close to the sea. I'm lucky enough to be surrounded by beaches where I live and I wouldn't have it any other way! Being by/ in the sea is when I'm at my happiest, no matter what time of year it is!

2.) I love photography- I'm not saying that I'm that great at it, but I find it so relaxing to take photos in my garden. I don't have the poshest camera or know how to work it well at that rate (!) but I love snapping away!

A photo I took in my garden.

3.) I had my Year 11 work experience at The Sunday Times and Style magazine in London, July 2013- It was such a great experience and I had the chance to sort out a bunch of designer clothes for a photoshoot with Daisy Lowe (!!!). Although I was just acting as an 'Office Junior', I had so much fun and learnt a lot that week!

4.) I'm a bit of a vintage fanatic- Although I don't dress head to toe in vintage 100% of the time, I really do adore it. The clothes, music and culture of different historic eras really interest me. My favourite singer is Billie Holiday!

5.) My favourite TV shows are Pretty Little Liars, Sherlock, The Carrie Diaries and Friends-(that's a lot, I know!). I generally don't watch much TV but when I get into a show, I become obsessed!

6.) My favourite item of makeup is definitely lipstick- I have all different colours and finishes. I couldn't pick a favourite shade!!

7.) I love musical theatre- I go as often as I can to the theatre. So far in the past 3 months, I've been to the theatre four times! My favourite shows that I've seen are West Side Story, Hairspray, Wicked and The Lion King!

8.) I'm a huge Disney fan- ever since I was a little girl I've been obsessed with all things Disney (although I used to be really scared of Dumbo!). I especially love the Disney princesses and Princess Tiana and Rapunzel are my favourites! Its my dream to go to Disneyland one day!

9.) I went to my first concert when I was just 7 years old and it was Mcfly's first ever tour at Plymouth Pavillions. (They were 17 years old then, aww!). I cried all the way through the show because the music was too loud, but then I started going to their concerts ever since then!

10.) I LOVE green tea! (Has to be decaf though!) I drink cups and cups of green tea every day; I'm thankful that its good for you, otherwise I'd be stuffed! Its really difficult to find decaf green tea but Sainsburys sell Tetley decaf, so we stock up on boxes every time we see it!

So there is so random facts about me- I hope that you found these mildly entertaining and make sure to check back next Monday for another edition of #TeenBlogSeries :)

Tell me a fun fact about yourself in the comment section below- I love to get to know you guys!

Have a great day!

Beautiful Blog Award | LittleEllieMae

My best friend and overall awesome blogger, Becca from Becca Jane, kindly nominated me for the Beautiful Blog Award - thank you very much Becca! Check out her great blog and give it a follow!

The Rules

-Answer the questions written by the person who nominated you

-Write 11 questions for your nominees

-Nominate bloggers to answer your questions

Becca's Questions

1- If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go and who with?

Gosh, start it off with a hard one! Hmm... My heart says Disneyland but I'd love to go somewhere different like New York or The Maldives even. If I were to go to Disneyland I'd have to take Becca with me.

2- What was the last film you watched?

West Side Story! My family and I have become kind of obsessed with it since we saw it at the theatre a few weeks ago!

3- What is your favourite dish to have for tea/dinner?

I love my Mum's homemade veggie lasagna! Its so delicious.

4- What is your everyday essential?

Lip balm because my lips dry out and crack ever so easily! At the moment I'm really into my Sweet Cecily's lip balms as they have amazing flavours (check out my review of them here!).

5- When was the last time you cried at a book/film/article etc.?

My eyes definitely welled up this morning when I finished reading 'We Were Liars' by E. Lockhart but the last time I properly sobbed at something has to be when I watched 'The Fault In Our Stars' at the cinema. The tears streamed down my face for at least quarter of an hour after the film.

6- Who/what is your favourite blogger/blog?

This is a hard one because I read so many blogs! I genuinely love Becca's blog, Jamie's Blog (she has the best blog photos!), and Adrienna from The Sunday Girl. I've also recently discovered A├»cha's blog which I love!

7 -If you could be anybody for the day who would you be?

Maybe Karl Lagerfeld- just because I'd love to see what its like to be in such a highly respected role in the industry that I love. And I'd get to see what its like to be male for the day. And hang out with Cara Delevingne.

8- If you had 3 wishes what would they be?

I was going to be really pretentious and say "Ask for more wishes!!" but I won't. Hmm...
To live a happy and stable life, To make sure that all the people I love stay happy, healthy and safe, To travel the world and experience as much as possible.

9- What is your favourite memory?

Another hard one, thanks Becca! I just cannot narrow this down to one because so many memories make me smile. Sitting and watching the sea on my favourite bench, late night chats with my friends, family meals, travelling all over the place.

10 - If you could have one talent, what would it be?

To sing! I've always dreamed of going into musical theatre but it really sucks because I really can't sing, dance or act. Imagine belting out a song in the shower and actually not sounding like a strangled cat?!

11- If you could choose a different name what would it be?

I used to cry because I hated my name so much (Eleanor Mae) but now I really like it! I love my sister's name, Flora. But my favourite girl's name at the moment is Eliza so probably that.

My Questions
1.) Which actress would you like to play you in a movie of your life?
2.) What is your favourite item of clothing that you own?
3.) When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?
4.) What was the first concert you ever went to?
5.) If you could travel in time, where would you go and why?
6.) What is your aim for the future of your blog?
7.) Which do you prefer: city, countryside or coast (beach)?
8.) If you were to write a book, what type of book would it be?
9.) If you could only use one form of social media for the rest of your life, which website/ app would it be?
10.) If you could meet anyone in the world, who would it be?
11.) If there was a book of your entire life, would you flick to the end to see what your future holds? Or wait to live it yourself?

I nominate...

Highstreet Monochrome Lookbook 2014 | LittleEllieMae

This summer I've been into the monochrome trend; I love how the block colours stand out and create a really 'put- together' look.

West Side Story UK Tour | LittleEllieMae Review

As I've mentioned before, I am a bit of a (huge) musical theatre fanatic. I've been going to the theatre every year since I was about 6 years old and my love for musicals has grown up with me.

So far this year I have been lucky enough to see Singing In The Rain and Cats, and this week I went to watch West Side Story at the Theatre Royal Plymouth

I've seen the film of West Side Story a few times before, but its never really stuck out as one of my favourites (in comparison to Singing In The Rain and Calamity Jane etc.) so I was somewhat skeptical over how the musical would be.

West Side Story is the modern tale inspired by 'Romeo and Juliet'. It is set in the 1950s where there is a constant battle between two gangs (The Sharks, who are from Puerto Rico and The Jets, from New York). However, Tony who is one of The Jets falls in love with Maria, the younger sister of Bernardo, the leader of The Sharks. This, as you can imagine, causes a huge disputes between all sides.

My family and I were lucky enough to have seats which were on the second row from the stage which was really exciting. I love being sat close to the stage as you can really see every little detail which makes everything seem so much more intense; I could see the way the actors punched in the stage- fights and the points of their toes in the dance routines. It made me feel as if I were in the story myself.

To get to the point, I absolutely loved the show. From the music and dancing to the costumes and script. Everything was great and performed so tremendously by the amazing cast.

I actually went to see the show twice in a week! The first time I went with my family, Matthew Hawksley took on the role of Riff, the leader of The Jets, whereas the second time I went to see it Jack Wilcox played his original role and Matthew returned to playing Action. I liked both actors in this role as they both have such phenomenal voices, particularly in the 'Jet Song' but I think I preferred Matthew Hawksley as Riff as he brought an element of such intensity to the role which I think is very faithful to the character of Riff.

The casting for this show was just perfect. In particular Katie Hall, who played Maria, and Louis Maskell, who played Tony, had so much chemistry in addition to some of the most powerful yet beautiful voices I have ever heard in musical theatre. Their rendition 'Tonight' gave me goosebumps each time I heard it.

My favourite scene of the show has to be the dance at the gym where it was an explosion of intense dance routines between The Jets and The Sharks. Sometimes I didn't know where to look as there was so much going on but the dancing was just so on point, it was faultless. These actors were all obviously well professionally trained, as they perfected every single move.

The song that I loved most in the show was probably 'Gee, Officer Krupke' which just made me laugh every time as The Jets make fun of the police officer. It got the whole auditorium laughing, giving the show a bit more warmth between the murders and heart- break. But of course, the songs like 'Somewhere' and 'Maria' were beautifully sung and just as great.

Another thing that I have to point out about the West Side Story show is the attention to detail. One of the parts that stands out most prominently for me is when Action (Matthew Hawksley) and one of The Sharks are having a fist fight; Action dives on top of the Puerto Rican through the air stunningly, with his toes pointed perfectly and hands in a strong in- flight position, it was as if time had stopped right there and then. Detailed and obviously well rehearsed things like that happened all through the show and it didn't fail to amaze me.

I'm going to wrap up this slightly longer post than usual now, but I will be doing another one about the costumes, makeup and hair of the West Side Story tour show very soon- so keep and eye out for that!

West Side Story UK Tour is travelling around the country now, so go and check it out! You will not regret it!

What's your favourite musical of all time? Comment below or let me know by tweeting me @LittleEllieMae :)

Have a great day!

Review | Lush Stepping Stone

A few weeks ago I wrote a post about my trip to the Lush blogger event, where they kindly treated us to a few Lush goodies!

This is Stepping Stone; One of Lush's many wonder- products which aims to give a bit of TLC to your feet!

Firstly, the smell of this product is just amazing. It was sat in my Lush bag in my room for a day or two and it fragranced my entire bedroom with refreshing, citrus smells.

It is made up of Sodium Bicarbonate,Pumice Powder,Citric Acid,Organic Jojoba Oil,Fine Sea Salt,Cocoa Butter,Lemongrass Oil,Gardenia Extract, Lemon Oil,Lime Oil,Water (Aqua),Lycopodium Powder,Citral*Geraniol*Citronellol*Limonene*Linalool*Perfume, Colour 42090- all of which are either natural ingredients or safe synthetics.

To use this product you can either break off pieces and use it directly on damp feet as an exfoliator or you can use it as a mini bath bomb for your foot spa as it fizzes when it hits the water. I used a bit of both!

I like to think that I have sensitive feet, and I've used real pumice stone in the past which has been way to harsh for me and irritated my skin. However, when I used this product which has pumice powder in it, it made them feel wonderful!

It totally looks like I'm naked here- but I promise I was wearing shorts!

I think I could even say that this is the best foot product I have ever used; It is softening and effectively gets rid of all dead skin cells without being harsh or uncomfortable to use. Not only does the product smell amazing, but it makes your feet smell great too as it has deodorising properties!

The cocoa butter and organic jojoba oil in Stepping Stone stopped my feet from drying out and made them feel as soft as a pillow. You know that feeling when you take your socks off in bed on a cold sheet and it feels like heaven?.. that's what this made my feet feel like. Really good.

I used some of the foot scrub after my bath with a Lush bath bomb which I will be reviewing very soon!
Overall I am so glad that I had the chance to use this great product. I will definitely be repurchasing this one!

Thanks again to Lush Plymouth for inviting us to the evening and giving us the chance to use some of the products!

What is your favourite Lush product? Let me know by commenting below or tweet me @LittleEllieMae :)

Have a great day!

All Things Vintage and Lovely + Vintage Car Rally | LittleEllieMae

I am a huge vintage lover- the clothes, music, history and culture. I love it all.

The vintage outreach in Devon and Cornwall is expanding rapidly, with shows and fayres happening more and more frequently. My favourite vintage shows are the All Things Vintage and Lovely  events that are held around Plymouth and other areas in Devon and Cornwall.

Yesterday, my family and I attended the event at Mount Edgcumbe where there was a car rally along side the vintage fayre.

Beautiful vehicles from a huge variety of eras gathered at the show for people to look at.

Mount Edgcumbe house was built in the 1500s and restored after WW2. It is one of the many stunning venues open to the public in Cornwall.

The event was so busy! It took us hours to get there from Plymouth due to the massive traffic build ups.

The cutest and yummiest cupcakes ever!

I love little touches like this at fayres- vintage dresses hanging from the trees!

Some of my favourite things to find at vintage fayres- old magazines and records!

I've come across this adorable van at quite a few of these events now and I think its a lovely idea to serve afternoon tea in!

The gardens are also beautiful at Mount Edgecumbe, especially in the summer when they are full of colour!

What I Wore:
Dress- H! By Henry Holland
Shoes- New Look
Sunglasses- Primark
Shoulder Satchel Bag- Primark
Ankle Bracelet- Souvenir from Spain

I wore this lovely dress by Henry Holland as I wanted to dress in a way that gave a nod to the vintage theme, however still sticking to my personal style. I felt that this dress has a 60s monochrome vibe to it with the shift shape and faux leather detail on the collar and pockets. Pairing it with white shoes and a black and white bag, you can't go wrong with a good monochrome look!

I had a great day and I can't wait to visit the next vintage fayre in Plymouth in September!

Do you go to any vintage events? Let me know by commenting below or tweeting me @LittleEllieMae !

Have a lovely day!
