Fashion February- Week 3- Tartan

I love tartan!

So when I was told about the topic for this week's edition of Fashion February, I was delighted!

All through this autumn/winter I have been wearing a lot of tartan!

My favourite way to style tartan is in small portions. For example, with tartan accessories or just one main garment.

I will show you some ways which I wore tartan over the last few months!

This tartan bag is from H! by Henry Holland (Debenhams) which I could incorporate into countless different outfits. I love the unusual use of blue and grey colours which you don't see very often in tartan!

(Yes that is a photo of me sitting on a statue of a donkey!)

I LOVE this tartan top from Primark. Its so easy to wear casually with jeans or you can dress it up with a black skirt and heeled boots.

I found some really cool street style outfits which also incorporate tartan. I especially love tartan scarfs (the one pictured is from H&M).

I really enjoyed writing this post about one of my favourite fashion trends!

How would you style tartan? Let me know by commenting below or tweeting me @LittleEllieMae

Finding The Perfect Outfit- (feat. new Smiggle products!)

Hello everyone! Today is going to be a bit of a different post, but I'm very excited about it!

I'm going to guide you through some steps to finding your perfect outfit!

Firstly, you will need to consider the occasion where you will wear your outfit. The occasion will determine whether your outfit will be formal/informal, suitable for outdoors etc.

Then, which colours do you want to wear? Experiment with which colours suit you best! Don't stick to the generic rules of monochrome in the winter and florals in the spring, bright colours in the summer- mix it up and bit and dare to add a splash of colour to your winter wardrobe etc!

What about the style of clothes you are going to wear? There are SO many different styles around nowadays- it can be a bit overwhelming with so much to choose from! Choose whatever style suits your body shape and personality! Here are a few options I thought of:

Then there's the acessories that you have to take into consideration! You can colour coordinate them to your outfit or totally make it clash- either can work!

But of course you don't have to think up a whole new outfit idea on your own! You can take inspiration from many different places. I've shown a few examples of where you can take inspiration from below:

To round it up, to find the perfect outfit for any occasion it will take you different steps to plan it with several things to consider along the way! However, always make sure that you feel comfortable and happy in whatever you are wearing!

Now, for the second part of this post...

To draw some of these pictures showing some examples of stages to find the perfect outfit I used some products from Smiggle

Smiggle are an Australian brand who sell colourful, fun, fashion-forward stationery and accessories. Their name 'Smiggle' came from a mixture of a smile and a giggle! So cute!

Smiggle are soon landing in the UK! Their first store is opening on 20th February in Westfield, Stratford. Then they are opening further stores around the country, including in Reading, Brighton, Kingston. Very exciting!

They kindly sent me a bundle of their products for me to try out before their store launch.

Being a bit of a stationery geek I was thrilled to recieve some new goodies! As this is the year of my life that I am drowning in exams and controlled assessments, stationery is a must. Their products are so colourful and exciting which makes revising so much more interesting and enjoyable!

Also, any stationery that smells nice is definitely my cup of tea! (Ooh can I have a perfume smelling like their highlighters already?! wow)

They literally have every single colour pen you could ever imagine- neon, glitter, pastels... you name it!

My sister caught me singing (along to my Disney song collection, haha!) with my Smiggle headphones. Every one keeps pointing out that they're the exact same colour as my eyes haha!

This is me being a bit of a dork- but making my sister (my photographer) smile and giggle ;)

My little sister used the Smiggle gel pens to draw my logo for me- Love it! The colours are really bright and colourful. Thanks Flora :)

Thank you to Smiggle for sending me these awesome products and also to Mel for contacting me and just generally being lovely :)

You can check out Smiggle over at http://www.smiggle.co.uk/ and make sure you check out their new store opening on 20th February at Westfield, Stratford- I definitely will be very soon!

Have a great day, wherever you are!

Fashion February- Week 2- Harem Pants

I was quite the sucker for harem pants, or hammer trousers, when I was 11. I used to have my favourite pair of grey Red Herring harem pants  which I wore everywhere with my purple and grey striped Henry Holland polo shirt (I thought I was a bit gangsta back in the day).  However, now I'm not too sure on them and cringe at the thought of that grey and purple loving outfit.

Although, today I'm going to style a pair of harem pants (the best I can).

For me, harem pants are part of quite a laid back look. It's something that (if I were to wear them) I would just wear them casually- going to the shops or a travelling outfit etc.

I would style these harem pants with a statement t shirt, a denim jacket and vans.

I would buy harem pants at ASOS, as pictured. I think that I would wear black ones like these the most as they are very wearable and will match with a lot of things. And at £16, they are very reasonable!

I've loved delving into an item which I loved so much in the past for this post! Stay tuned for next weeks Fashion February post! :)

My Modern Dorothy (Wizard of Oz) Dress!

Hi guys!
So, I've been taking GCSE Textiles for 3 years now and its one of my favourite subjects. As part of my final GCSE this year I was given a design brief to produce a garment for a west end show of my choice with a modern twist.

I chose The Wizard of Oz as my west end show to create a garment for because its one of my all time favourite musicals and I was lucky enough to see it at the amazing London Palladium a few years ago.

I won't bore you with all my textiles coursework but I really wanted to share with you my finished product as I'm really pleased with it!

I've grown up with all of my family sewing, so I've always know how to do it but this is my first attempt at making a whole outfit so it was exciting!

This is my finished product!

I went with the traditional blue and white gingham and played on the red of the traditional ruby slippers (even including a little motif of them at the bottom of the dress) for the colour scheme.

To make this dress a modern version, I used a sweetheart neckline and a sheer organza panel and a cut out at the back of the dress.

I had to take photos of the dress ("in action") for my folder work so I hope you enjoy some of the photos! Say hi to little Indie, playing Toto in my photoshoot, haha!

It took me a lot of hard work and effort to finish this dress by the deadline (took up A LOT of my school lunchtimes over the past few months!) so I'm pleased to finally show it to the world!

Okay, I admit that its a dress that I will obviously not wear on a day-to-day basis but who knows what fancy dress party I'll be going to soon!

To go with the dress I created my own ruby slippers (with again, a modern twist!). I used some white £3 pumps from Primark and brought some red glitter from Paperchase. The D.I.Y. on Pinterest told me to use ModPodge but I refused to spend that amount of money on some glue so I made my own! I just used PVA glue with water- works just as well!

I coated the pumps with the glue and covered in the glitter. I'm still finding glitter all over my bedroom and I did it a week ago haha! To seal the glitter in I sprayed it with hairspray after it had completely dried (I left it 48 hours).

And this is the (pretty much) finished product of the ruby slippers (minus the laces!). It was a super cheap alternative to buying sparkly red shoes and it was very fun too!

So that's it really! Do you take GCSE Textiles? What did you/ are you going to make for your final piece? Let me know by leaving me a comment below or tweeting me @LittleEllieMae :)

Have a great week!

Prom Series- Celeb Inspiration

Hi guys! I've decided to start a series of blog posts leading up to Prom (summer 2014) as its actually my prom this year (eeeeek!!!!) so I will take you along with me to see how I prepare for it and I will give you lots of tips and advice too!

Although it may seem that prom is a world away with exams blocking its view, I can assure you that it will creep up on you very quickly! There is obviously no rush for prom (TIP NUMBER 1: Don't get stressed about prom! Its your time to have fun and relax- Don't ruin it with a pessimistic attitude!) its probably a good time to start thinking of ideas about certain things. This series of blog posts will guide you through all you need  for the time running up to prom. From dresses, to makeup, hair, dates, transport, bags, shoes- the LOT!

Enjoy the crazy ride!

Firstly, your prom dress is primarily the most important and special part of prom. Oui? We've all dreamt of our perfect prom dresses as girls growing up so its super exciting when the time comes to get it! We all want to feel like princesses on our big day- its the equivalent of a wedding day for teenage girls everywhere!

So lets start with ideas for your perfect prom dress; its a good idea to brainstorm what features you'd like for your dress. Pinterest is a good place for this- try making a Prom board and storing all of your ideas there! Think about: Maxi or short dress? Sparkly or simple? Strapless or sleeves? There are plenty of factors to think about! However, if you don't particularly know what you want at this point, that's fine! Its still early days- you might just be able to find 'the one' out of nowhere (like I did!).

Another idea is to gather inspiration from celebrities. Try searching celebrities' dresses at red carpet events as a great starting point! Here are some examples below:

Taylor Swift is the prime example for prom dress inspiration! She wears some gorgeous dresses, I especially love this one which is very princess-like. Aah!

Selena Gomez is another. Selena has a very classy and sophisticated style which is very cute when it comes to prom. I'd say that my style is very alike to hers (and this reflects in my prom dress that you can see in July!)

I don't know a single girl who didn't love Rachel Berry's prom dress from Glee! Its so cute, girly and simple. Of course you can add some detail with a corsage.

Anne Hathaway shows that you can rock a bit of sparkle in a dress, especially for prom season! Even if you're not a sparkle fan, Anne shows that you can make it look classy with small portions of it and a toned down colour.

Or maybe you prefer a bolder dress like Rihanna? A dress like this gives a bit of sexy yet still pretty and sophisticated.

Emma Watson is my style crush, and this dress is no exception! Make a bold statement with texture in a dress like Emma's.

Or maybe a shorter, vintage-styled dress like Ariana Grande is more your style? So cute yet still looking nice and formal for the special occasion!

So there you have it, now you can hunt for celeb prom inspiration to your heart's desire! Its definitely a great starting point to getting you on the road to your perfect prom!

Next time I'll be looking at different prom dresses at many different price ranges to suit everybody!

Have a great day!

Fashion February- Week 1- Styling The Numari Dress!

Hi guys! Happy February to you all!

As I have mentioned before, this month I am taking part in Fashion February, coordinated by the lovely Ali.

Our task for week one of Fashion February is to style the Diagonal Colour Block dress from Numari with five extra items.

Here's my effort:

I have styled this dress with:
1.) Leather jacket from Topshop
2.) Bowler hat from Miss Selfridge
3.) Black and camel courts from Debenhams
4.) Heart print tights from Dorothy Perkins
5.) Kate Moss lipstick in 107

I chose to style this dress for a dressed up occasion, but still with a quirky and young feel to it, as I would wear it myself.

I chose to pair it with a leather jacket and a bowler hat- a blogger's essentials- to give it a cool vibe and of course its practical (with all the cold, wet weather we're having we better cover up!) and sticking to the monochrome colour scheme. The camel and black sling back heels match perfectly with the dress, giving a bit of colour differentiation from the jacket and hat which I think is nice. To finish of the look I would add some fun heart printed tights (which I am OBSESSED with at the moment!) because I think that they bring a lot of character to the outfit in comparison to the generic black opaque tights and of course a killer red lip for a punch of colour. "Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick." as Gwyneth Paltrow perfectly agrees.

This outfit is very 'me' and I would totally wear it going shopping with my girl friends or going for a meal. Its very wearable.

What do you think?! Let me know in the comments below or tweet me @LittleEllieMae.

Have a great day!
